| We got 20 babies abouts a month old now. They look to be avg.<1/2inch long. Can now clearly see fins, spine, inards, (they are not just eyes and stomach on a colorless bunch of cells anymore). They are in a 1.5gal bowl with a heater and some bubbles. I must have done something right so far. I have some ten gal tanks and some other equipment in the attic, but they would propably not survive any filter that I've got. Been feeding with a packet of "Hikari First Bites" powdered fish food. Have left some stuff resembling coloidale pond scum in the bottom of the bowl with the few water changes I've made.
SO What do ya'll think I ought to do at this point Their Growing |

| Just keep doing what you have been doing, and just wait. _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. I have kept both fresh and salt water, cichlids, catfish, loaches, clownfish, wrasses, and everything in between. Feel free to ask me any questions!

| I would start to get the 10 gallon cycled and ready for them when it's time for them to go to a bigger home. _________________

| Alright So this is my plan: set up a 10gal, found an under gravel filter, no jets but I got air pumps to run it a bit, and a heater. I will have to get some gravel yet. Let system run for a week with some inocculation from another tank and then put the fishys in next weekend. Hope that sounds about right. Thanks guys |

| 10 gal, UGF, 2-3 in gravel. Yes I went for the jet pump (I've turned down the Venturi since I took this pic to let them find their food better). Almost life size pic, 75 deg F, neutral pH. Kyoto grass. 14 hr light. Feed Hikari Tropical First Bites.

| The danios are now 5/8-3/4inch and are developing coloration. The initial count was off (I couldn't count them and my youngest counted the 20) there seems to be 15 or 17 of them, I still can't count 'cause they don't stop moving. There is one that is much bigger and one that is much smaller than the rest.
Starting to look like something there. I'll try to get a good picture of the whole tank. |

| Not bad, but some things need to be changed. Undergravels are a no-no for fry tanks, as fry can easily get trapped in them. Sponge filters are a cheaper a better way to go for a fry tank. Hikari First Bites, hmmmm.... how much are you feeding them, and how often? I would try crushed flake foods, then work your way up to mysis shrimp, then small flakes, then large flakes. Plant the tank, fry need cover in order to not be skittish when they are older. Other than that, you are doing good. Post some more pics soon! _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. | We put the13 or14 danios back in with their parents and the red tail shark this morning. (One died and I don't know how many the dog drank in the past month).
They get chased a bit by the red tail but they are big enough (1"+) and quick enough to not get eaten.
Any big catfish would have made a few meals out of them but they are schooling and have room to scatter and such. As long as they stay in there their good.
Ivy caught some sort of Dace and a small tadpole out of Fall Brook yesterday. They are going in the tank the baby danios came out of (for a few weeks) as soon as we get the temps the same. The tank is a bit tropical yet. |
