| I would like to know what your opinion is on having Betta's in community tanks? I have had 4 Betta's and all but one has been in a community tank, at present I have two. One of them lives on hie own in a 5 gal. tank and the other in my 29 gal. community tank. I have only had problems once with my Betta's and that was when I had one of them in a 20 gallon with 2 Kribensis, bad idea. At first there was no problem, but 2 days later my Betta looked beat up and then the female Krib came from the other side of the tank after him, I immediately removed him and put him in the 5 gallon tank. My Betta in the 29 gallon tank has never had a problem. _________________

| | as with all fish in community or not it depends on the fish's personality so much. I have had angels and red tail sharks in community tanks an not. They all started in community tanks but every so often I would end up with 1 that refused to be with anyone else. I got to know the pet stores in my area at the time real well because of this. |

| We have a male betta in a 30 gal tank with gouramii (other labyrinth fish) and he seems happy. Although he cannot keep the long flowing fins. I have debated getting a female for this tank. This tank is not overcrowded and this fish really does seem to be doing well. We've had him for 6 months in this tank.
Do you think adding a female betta to this tank would be a good thing? |

| | I always remember people telling me you couldn't put bettas in with other fish, but it seems like a lot of people do it. |

| Male Bettas are ok in a community tank, but just don't put them in with other fish that have long, flowing fins. The male Betta will take it as an other Betta and tear it to shreds. Also, small barbs like Tiger Barbs aren't good either, as they will rip apart the Betta's fins. All in all, I usually keep Bettas alone. _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. | | I have found that older male Betta fish most times do good in a comunity tank, more so that they are tired and don't care to defend they're territory. Putting a female in will only make them very aggresive no matter what age, unless they are next to death. Any fish with long fins that are nippers or even aggresive themselfs will turn out bad for the betta. With most comunity tanks water levels like Ph and Kh are to differnt for bettas, plus the current might be to strong and they only tire themself staying at the top. In most parts its a hit or miss when adding bettas male or female to a comunity tank. I think that if you want a long finned fish to go with something other than bettas. I have put males in comunity tanks time after time just to have somthing go wrong down the road... |

| | I have had Betta's in a community tank before and have only had problems with them and other fish with long flowing fins, but most of the time everything was great. |
