I took out my fish tub, filled it with water, added gravel, a large fake plant, added water conditioner, then let it sit for a week. Today, I brought home a medium Calico Ryukin goldfish. I added him into the (outdoor) tub after the acclimation, then I left for a party for 2 1/2 hours. When I got back, he wasn't looking good. He was sitting on the bottom and wasn't moving, I thought he was dead, so I stuck my hand into the water, and he started moving. I thought it was best to take him out and put him in a proper tank. I took him out, and put him in a plastic bag. I had no where else to put him, and I liked the little guy, so I floated the bag in the 50 gallon tank with the angels and a few other fish. I thought that the angels might rip him to shreads, but I put him in anyways. I realized that he was fine, and he even started chasing the Rasboras and even started to nip at the angels. Obviously, he was okay, and he has settled down and looks much better. Was this the right move to make?

PostSubject: Putting fish in...   Mon Apr 28, 2008 5:27 pm

I have added koi and goldfish to decorative ponds that had little waterfalls back into them with no real fountain. The fish show any signs of being stressed; I put hose of recirculated water falling in front of them to provide added aeration and circulation. Some I've been there quite a while with them until they appear stable and comfortable. and then keep an eye on them for a while more that they don't stress out again.

I have a friend that will run a hose aerating the water before hand, and then be at the ready to do the same as above, when he adds his comets that he keeps inside in winter.
