| Euthanasia is a very difficult and usually hotly debated topic. I'm curios to know what others do and what there opinion is on the different methods, such as freezing and the use of clove oil. Since I may have to do something to end the suffering of one of my favorite fish, I have done some reading and at this point I'm swayed toward the use of clove oil.
Clove Oil. You use clove oil to anesthetize fish. You anesthetize them first with the clover oil, at this point you can use vodka to kill them or a strong concentration of clove oil will kill them. There is one other method to anesthetize using Tricaine Methanesulfonate, but the clover oil is more accessible, you can get Tricaine Methanesulfonate on line. _________________

| I have done that before on one of my Whiptail catfish. I just put it in a bucket, then put in concentrated clove oil, then I poured in a little bit of dish soap to finish the job. _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. | Well I had to euthanasias one of my favorite fish today, I always ask my self if I should wait you know maybe the fish will get better. I new he wouldn't and too me this is better than letting him die in pain and discomfort. I used the clove oil and vodka method and in the future will again. _________________

| I have never even put a lot of thought into this, I just let nature take it's course. I guess it would be no different than any of our other pets we wouldn't let them suffer.
Sorry to hear you lost one of your favorite fish. |

| i used to do that clove oil trick... but now if they're untreatable i just throw them into the monitor's tank and she eats them up quick...
i know it's brutal... but i have way to many fish to bust out with the clove oil and bucket... |
