| With me having so much free time to think, I had the the thought of when I first started a tank and why. Now i know that wasn't when I got really into keep tanks and fish But Ist's what sarted it for me. When i also think about this first tank i also remember why i got the tank.I was probally about about 10 or 11 years old, and for my birthday ( and i don't celibrate any holiday even as a little child i never would get into the hole holidays thing) but when i was hiding in my room My gradfater knock and siad he got somthing for my birthday he came in with a 10gal tank hood heater gravel filter all setup on it , i cleard a space for and it sat there for probally close to 6 months before i even filled it with water then it sat lights filter heater all going. i still had no real interest in it yet, untill my grampa finally took me to a fish store. "WAM" it hit me when i got to lookn at all the cool fish i was hooked. Got some fish (neon tetras Dannio's a small plecostumus and some fake plants. When i got home i dumped them into the tank try'd to get the plants to stay down but they wouldn't so i used some peices of metal to hold them down ( oh ya i was raise on a cattle farm in Alberta till i was 13) so with the metal, crapy water (REAL CRAPPY COUNTRY WATER CAN"T SEE THROUGH IT) and never doing a water change ,and being infront of a window, for about 5 months. The fish are dead, the tank smells and they're is some much alge that you sould objects on top of the water and it would take forever for it to sink and the rust water permently stainned the glass at each evaporation point. So it got tossed A couple of years went by and all the sudden i started a tank then another one and so on got more into speacile fish and then breeding and ive Had my own a complisments Of breeding Koi fish , convict or Texas Ciclids and so many of the cilids and the true blackest, ones that i was selling breeding pairs of fish to some fish supplyers that use to be around this area, till they all movedT.O, alot of live barring fish ,bettas and then my set my goals on fancy guppies and now i got my mind set on the Killi Fish -IF I EVER FIND ANY around here that i can get too. So how did it start and what is it for you now?? _________________ Starting new is hard, and finding the right KilliFish is harder.. |

| One day when I was 7, I went over to my friends house. They were setting up a 20 gallon tank when I got there, and I was instantly hooked. I begged my parents to get me a fish, and eventually, they gave me a 1 gallon Betta kit and this beautiful Crowntail Betta. After 2 years, the Betta died, then I got a male fancy guppy. After another few months, my parents finally bought me a 2 1/2 gllon tank with 2 goldfish and 4 White Cloud Mountain Minnows. They all died. Then, when I was 11 years old, I bought a 50 gallon thank equiped with everything. I stocked it with Angelfish, Tetras, and Corydoras Catfish. Then it just kept going from there, now, the same friend that sparked my enthusiasm for fish, he still sits there, with his one 20 gallon tank with 4 cichlids in it, awing at my tanks in my fishroom, including my new 200 gallon reef tank (pics comming soon!). Now, I am a professional, helping other people with their tanks, helping out at fish stores and for class trips to my little ocean ( ) and helping out uninformed wal-mart employees that work in the pet depratment _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. I have kept both fresh and salt water, cichlids, catfish, loaches, clownfish, wrasses, and everything in between. Feel free to ask me any questions!

| I-grew-up-on-50-acres-in-upstate-NY-with-a-geologist-dad-and-a-marine-biologist-step mom-and-we-had-2-ponds-and-a-large-stream-going-through-our-property.....My-step mom-was-doing-behavioral-research-on-crayfish-and-had-9-tanks-which-I-thought-was-very-cool......That-was-when-I-got-an-intrest-in-aquariums,-and-particularly-crayfish.
I-used-to-place-flat-rocks-in-a-front-corner-of-the-tank-and-had-a-few-smaller-round-rocks-underneath.....The-crayfish-would-dig-out-a-burrow-under-the-rock-and-the-round-rocks-kept-the-rock-from-falling-down,-and-I-had-the-burrow-in-the-front-of-the-tank-so-I-could-see-into-their-burrows....I-loved-watching-them-dig-and-push-out-the-sand-and-it-looked-cool-the-way-they'd-create-a-mound,-or-alluvial-fan,-and-hang-out-there-waiting-for-food.
I-tried-this-with-crayfish-from-an-aquarium-store-in-LA-and-it-didn't-burrow....I-guess-some-types-burrow-and-some-don't.
When-I-was-young-I-collected-crayfish,-stream-darters,-fresh-water-clams,-stream-minnows,-blue-gill's,-and-whatever-I-found-that-I-liked.....i-had-a-55-gallon-tank-in-my-room-and-a-3-something-gallon-old-glass-battery-case-on-the-porch.
I-didn't-get-back-into-aquariums-till-my-son-was-4-and-I-figured-it-would-be-fun-for-both-of-us....When-I-got-back-into-the-hobby-8-years-ago-I-had-a-beautiful-10-gallon-with-sand-and-gravel-from-the-beach,-lots-of-plants,-and-a-good-deal-of-current.
Though-this-tank-with-a-Dojo,-a-few-Danios,-a-few-stream-minnows,-and-some-others-was-a-bit-overstocked,-I-think-the-plants-and-the-compatibility-of-the-community-of-fish-made-for-a-happy-aquarium....I-had-a-beautiful-Anubias-that's-roots-grew-down-over-a-big-rock-I-had-and-I-used-a-2-bulb-2-foot-long-fluorescent-shop-light-for-lighting.
I-was-drinking-a-bottle-of-vodka-daily-and-smoking-quite-a-bit-of-pot-and-after-work-I'd-sit-next-to-the-aquarium-and-basically-watch-my-tank-as-people-watch-TV....I'm-pretty-much-off-the-alcohol,-I'd-say-maybe-3-drinks-a-week,-and-as-for-pot.....I-have-to-take-urine-tests,-so-that's-out
Now-I-have-5-working-tanks,-and-Florida-Spotted-gars-are-my-favorite-fish-at-the-moment. |
