Everyone loves brightly coloured fish, but there are a lot of fish aren't naturally coloured. Juicing, or artificially colouring fish using paints and dyes, has been going on since the 1970's. For awhile it seem to have stopped then reappeared in the 80's. Yet most owners are unaware that their fish have been altered. Fish are injected, tattooed and dipped to colour them. Lots of them don't survive the process and the ones that do never live as long as they could. For more information on this read Why its cruel to dye | Practical Fishkeeping magazine

*sigh* The sad, sad truth of the aquarium hobby. I have seen glass catfish dyed in purples, yellows, reds, blues, and greens. Same with Glass tetras. I hate to see people do this to fish, but we can't stop it, can we? Sad

We can by not buying them and spreading the word so that others stop to, if there is no market for them they will stop selling them.

True, but there are some pretty sick fish keepers out there that tell inexperienced fish keepers that it is ok, when the more experienced guy already knows about dyed fish, especially if he is a store worker, because he is just trying to make a profit.

Right. I have a lot of fishkeeping experience under my wings, so I am glad I can help out on this site.

I have alot of peoples come to my fish shop and want painted or dyed fish. I tell them i do not sell them and then i tell them why they should not buy them. Some listen to me but some go to others pet shops and buy them. Most pet shop is out to make money but i am not.

My tropical fish store is a out of control hobby. lol. I open up a store so i could get my stuff at wholesales prices and maybe make a little money on the side.
