| I got some vallisneria in my 50 gallon community tank, and it is spreading like a weed. I like the looks of it, but I think it might choke off my Black Giant swordplants. They are hogging the light, and I am thinking of adding some duckweed to cut off some light to the vallisneria, so the swordplants can have their fair share. Any idea's on this? _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. I have kept both fresh and salt water, cichlids, catfish, loaches, clownfish, wrasses, and everything in between. | I did some checking and there are 5 verities of vallisneria,it will rapidly take over a tank. I would thin it out and since it Propagates by runners you'll probly have to remove some of it from the subtrate.
I also found out that this plant seems to be sensitive to Flourish Excel, to the point it "melts" completely off if given enough. _________________

| Ok, I guess I will separate them. Thanks! But I am just worried that their roots will choke my swordplants roots. _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. | I just got done looking at your new pics and I think you sword plant will be fine as long as you keep the vallisneria from over running the tank and thinned out. _________________

| I was thinking about putting some hornwort around the sword, just so the vallisneria could fight with them until I notice that the vallisneria is spreading. _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. | I love that stuff but my fish eat it so it doesn't spread like I want, and my local vendor hates it due to snails. Send me some come spring. Really. Please. |
