| i have a female guppy, no belly so i do not beleive she is pregnant right now. She is spending all her time on the bottom of the tank looking like she is panting. None of the other fish are doing this. Do I need to isolate her?
no visible signs of disease or virus except the panting and sitting on bottom of tank.
monthly 20% water change. 55gal but currently cycling a 10 gal for guppies to go into. feed once a day with nutrifin tropical flakes. ammonia and water chemistry is actually spot on and tank is crystal clear. |

| I would keep an eye on her, if you can isolate her from the rest that may be a not bad idea. _________________

| | Was she pregnant any time in the recent past? I have one female mosquito fish, a relative of the guppy, and after she has her babies she looks pretty whipped for a while. She loses some scales and appears tired until she starts swelling up again with new fry. Seems she prefers to be pregnant? |

| | If they female was bought pregent she most likely died from in breeding or she had to many babies inside of her so when she did have babies the pressure inside of her dropped causing her in a way to suffocate or even her swim bladder to fail. I have gone through to many females that I have bought prego and then die, when they can start having babies at 3-4 months old you don't know how many they have had before you got her plus when dealers keep they're stock the most time wait to long to seperate males and females so then brother dings sister. Maybe too the temp or water type (store bought water, tap water or rain water) could be the cause. Sorry to hear your fish died but with guppys that happens to often. |

| | i had for for about 5 months at the time and yes she had been recently pregnant so it sounds most likely the suffocating. since i let water sit out 24 hrs before i do a change on the tanks or even top it up due to evaporation. and do not use rain water or store bought. I have more control over the tap water than either of the previous. |

| | You would have more control over store bought water than tap water, tap water has chemicals that most test will never pic up and lack some minerals that keeps the ageing and diteriation of the water from happening so quick. Most times cloudy water comes from those chemicals that we can't test for but may be just strong enough to harm fish health and or keep fish from recooperating. You do what works best for you but you in my opinion ( and not no expert just someone who's done the tryle and error thing) should try store bought water, it;s worth the health of you fish. |

| | only if you can afford to buy that much water and with a limited budget i cant. at least with tap water i can leave it out and use some stuff from petstores to add any missing minerals and such. it is way cheaper that buying water for a 55 gal and a 10 gal. |

| | i have 3 30gal, 6 10gal, 2 20gal, 2 5gal, a 1gal and 5 betta cubes probally half gallon or less each. I am on o limited bugget but see that in the long run buying water is cheaper than buying all the chemicals you'd need to remove any polutants, metals etc. I store all my water in garbage pails about 25gal each( i have 4) and buy my water from filling station stores at bulk and its not that exspensive. For alot less of a hassel it is putting in chemicals which you are soposta let sitt and do they're thing for a couple of days (no matter what the bottle says) and let the water age ( and you still have to filter the water (they don;t tell you that) and add salts and other chemicals), I can fill up a clean 5gal jug (i clean and sterilize myself) and fill up or change water even drink it if needs be. Have you ever done any test like, ammonia, nitrite ,nitrate ,ph ,kh ,iron? I have and i was surprised to see the reults of the water we have to drink around here. All this and i think to myself would i live longer and happier living in tap water or clean water? |

| | i just noticed in one of you tank pics , you keep your males with your females? Over sexed females die of stress, guppy males are little horn dogs and will try to get some nookie when ever they can and if you got more than one male that three-some action for the poor girl 24-7. Female guppies can also hold a clutch of babies in if they feel stressed, even if she just had some she mostlikely had more in her.Again she dies fromm crushed organs a reason why she was at the bottom panting. |
