the smallest thing can make a big difference.

I put a bit of sponge in the intake on my hob last night to keep fry from getting sucked up. It has been cloudy but slowly clearing up with the weekly water changes. Woke up this morning to a crystal clear 10 gal tank. I am so surprised and so happy it is crystal clear. YAY cheers

Awsome. You can buy cilyndrical sponge filters that fit onto the intake of your filter and that might be a good thing for you as an alternative to just sticking a sponge into the intake.

i had some extra sponge from an old filter that i used so i didn't have to go out an buy more.

I supose that's fine. I personally prefer the bio freindly sponge they sell with large holes and good places for beneficial bacteria to grow in.

Great stuff glad every thing is going good. It is amazing how our tanks work, they are at times so simple and other times, well you could go nuts trying to find a way to get it just right. There are so many different points of view out there and it can be hard to know which to follow and all it took for you was something so simple and just by chance. cheers

i had put the minnows in the small tank with some of the guppy babies and it is crystal clear. however now that the guppies are back in the big tank it is cloudy as hell again. I didn't change anything in the big tank except to take the minnows out and put the guppies back in. sigh i may never get both tanks looking good at the time but gotta keep trying.

I-still-suggest-a-prefabricated-cylindrical-sponge-filter.......I-found-a-Fluval-canister-filter-and-I-rigged-it-up-so-it-empties-into-an-old-HOB-filter-filled-with-bio-sponge-material.......I-took-out-the-motor/pump-and-filter-inserts-for-the-hob-and-now-the-HOB-is-just-an-additional-bio-filter........This-sponge-filter-material-I've-found-is-best-cleaned-by-actually-smacking-it-hard-against-a-hard-surface,-like-the-side-of-a-sink......It-makes-a-mess,-but-squeezing-repeatedly-under-water-just-doesen't-clean-it-out-enough.......I-guess-crud-and/or-bacteria-gets-glued-into-these-sponges,-and-smacking-it-releases-loads-more-crud.
