| I have a tank purchased at Wal-Mart, it came with everything. The filter is an Aqua Tec HOB type filter and it seems to be doing the job. I was wondering if anyone else uses this brand of filter and what they think of it? I have one other tank and I use an Aqua clear filter on it and like it, but for the newer tank I'm not sure if I should go and spend more money for a another Aqua clear or just stick with the one that came with the tank. |

| I have used them, they are made by Marineland they make the Penguin filtersthe one with the Bio wheel. They are not a bad filter, but mine quit working after working for 2 years. If you own a Penguin filter it holds the exact same filter cartridge as the Aqua Tec. The only difference is price if the package says Penguin on it you will pay twice as much, but if it says Aqua tec its cheaper and they are the same cartridge. I don't feel you should run out and purchase a new filter if that one is doing the job. |

| I've never heard of it, but I would just keep it and see how it does for the next little while. _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. | | I have a magnum 350 canister rated 100 gallons, a Rena Filstar xP3 canister rated 175 gallons, and two softball sized power heads with about 4 inches of gravel over the under gravel filter in my 100 gallon tank. I just did a major gravel clean and water change, and I pulled off all the old leaves that had brush algae on them and I keep saying I'm going to return to the store my 14 inch arowana and 6 inch tilapia to cut down on waste for the tank to cycle. Even though I have plenty of filtration, these two fish create most of the crap. I want to showcase mainly my 5 gars and should have a very stable system after I remove the above 2 fish. |
