Any type, really. But I seem to always go for Jager or Underworld heaters....

I have heaters in my Tetra_tech hang on filters that are a removable part of the filter and they are protected against overheating when you leave them on and no water is in contact. I've busted a number of heaters that did not have this capability, so from now on I would always go with a thermo-protected heater.
