| Subject: Phosphate absorbing products. Do they help with algae? Wed Mar 19, 2008 7:09 pm | |
| I bought some Phoscheck phosphate absorbing granules that I've put in a cloth bag in my canister filter a couple months ago to try and eliminate brush algae growth. I'm also monitoring pH and keeping it around 7.0. I've heard that brush algae usually is found in low pH environments, so I don't know what is working. The little bits of brush algae left after I cleaned most of it out of my tank 2 months ago hasn't shown any new growth except that today I noticed it seemed to be a little longer on a few rocks. I put new Phoscheck in the filter today and I'll see if it has any effect on the algae and I'll post the results. |

| | I have seen some stuff on the use of phosphate absorbing granules to help with algae and the one type they mention a lot is brown algae. I would have to say from what I have seen on the subject is that it helps and you are doing the right things to control it. |

| | I can say that there's been a little growth on the leaves, but I think it may have been because the Phoscheck was getting old. If this doesn't do the trick I'll yank all the plants and put them into a treatment tank, and do a thourough bleaching to everything else(don't worry, I'll rinse well!). I guess it may be time to do another water change! |
