| Thanks. I'll do my very best!
I was at the aquarium store that sold me my Florida Spotted gars about 9 months ago and they actually still have one. Weird thing is it's still the same size it was nine months ago, like 4 inches. I asked how much they feed it and they said every 3 days, but when I asked 9 months ago they were feeding it daily.
It's just weird that my fish are now a foot long and there's is still 4 inches. I'm not into starving my fish, but I think I will feed them every other day from now on.
I got bitten by the biggest yesterday and it drew blood! Damn thing has some sharp teeth!
I always rummage through the garbage when I'm at aquarium stores and I got some great filter sponge material, unused.
2 days ago I found a nice PC light that had a wee bit of corrosion on the bulbs, so I removed the bulbs and cleaned it up, reattached a wire, and I think it'll work. It will be the second nice light I've gotten for free dumpster diving.
The sad thing is when I see lots of dead fish. Today I saw a dead sand shark and a whole bunch of other beautiful but dead marine fish and coral. People don't realise how many fish end up dying in transport so we can have fish avaliable to us at aquarium stores.
Well.........Popups or not, I'm a moderator and I'l be here ta lay down de law! So ye better watch out hehehe! No screwin around!

Seriously! I was just banned by a group of control freak moderators of another forum.
Since this experience I've formed an idea that with less control, except for editing of obvious gross inappropriateness or badmouthing of entities OUTSIDE this forum, it's best to let the regular members have much of the control of handling inappropriate posts and people who are being offensive.
In another forum I'm a member of there are no moderators and we had an issue with a guy who really knew very little, but wanted to rule the forum. He posted things like "who is stupider: XXX or YYY?" What happened was that the members of the forum came together and gave the guy some tough love. It took a few weeks for him to cool it, but it totally improved the forum in the long run. It brought many people who didn't know each other together and actually sped up that forum's daily post count. Yes, he was warned after a while by the administrator, but his posts were never edited as far as I know. At this point the drama's over and the posts have scrolled into the past, I think.
I don't see why we can't have a little drama, within limits and with Celticwraiths approval, so that we can get to know each other a bit better. Too much control and editing keeps members in the dark about things they really have the right to know about and inhibits the free flow of communication which will help this forum grow.
Any thoughts on this are appreciated.

| You might be a "forum Hitler"! Once again, just kidding, I can never see you Peter abuse your powers. That reminds me, I have a story to tell!
Like Peter, I was on an amateur fish forum, and it looked like everyone on it was pretty new to the aquarium hobby, so I joined so that I could give these guys some knowledge. Sooner or later, I was upgraded to a mod, then an admin, and the forum kept growing and growing. With the growing, we accumulated some pretty nasty members, racist or sexist remarks, sexual talk, and swearing were all problems. I was thinking as an admin, and I didn't want to ban them, so like you, Peter, I brought a bunch of members together to try to get these guys under control. He played along for a while, but then he started saying nasty things, so I knew I had to ban him. Then, I realized that he had multiple accounts, due to the fact that the other account was coming from his email. He was on the loose again, but I managed to hunt his posts down, then I banned him and his little friends. I decided to quit that forum, and start getting more involved in a different aquarium forum. I decided it would be a great idea to start my own fish forum, and that is how http://aquariumuniverse.one-forum.net came to be. I started to look up on the main page of the forum builder site "aquarium" in the search bar, and I decided to check out this forum. I realized it was pretty cool, so I decided to stay. After watching this forum grow and grow, I decided since all the members on my forum were inactive (except me), that I might as well just keep trying to get a few active members on my forum and stay with this forum as the main website I visit. Now, this site is my home page on my computer. I still go on my forum to see if there are any new members or posts, but usually there is noting but digital tumbleweeds and digital dust Well, even though my forum is pretty empty, this is by far most my favourite website. _________________ I have been keeping aquariums most of my life. | | So I've noticed that some other folks have "moderator" by their name too. Are we a posse or am I the sole whipper snapper? I like the idea of a team I guess so we can have secret private discussions about who we want to censure. I guess if it's just me and I start hearing about abuses like mixing Red Fins with Danios is it I who gets to delete those horrid posts? |

| You are the only Moderator at this time. You did see it under one other members name, but that was my goof. The only other rank you can get other than the normal ranks is Mentor and we have 3 members with that. _________________

| That's what I figured.
Last night was the second part in the Southpark episode where Cartman starts his own church to save all the kids from the lake of fire, and Satan is haveing problems choosing between his new wimpy lover Chris and his bad boy lover Saddam Hussein. Eventually Satan goes up to heaven and talks to God about it and God tells him he's turned into relationship addict and should dump both of his lovers. Kenny gets sent to Mexico after getting caught under a bus and the kids think he's in Hell from Kenny's description of Mexico over the phone. Saddam tells Satan that he won't let Satan leave him because if Satan kills him he will just keep coming back to hell, so Satan makes an arrangement with God and sends Saddam up to heaven where he has to play wimpy card games and hang out with the Mormons, the "correct" choice of religions for getting into heaven. Cartman loses his following when Jesus, who lives in Southpark, tells the kids that the best way to worship God is to do things for other people and enjoy life, not by going to Cartmans church, and Cartman is foiled once again in his pursuit of making a million dollars.
Ahhhhh! Southpark! Too bad I only get to watch the old episodes which are on antennae TV. I wish I had Comedy Central where I could watch the new ones. Oh well. |
